Energy intensity

Electricity consumption divided by what the plant produced: kWh, cost and emissions per unit — the indicator that makes performance comparable across periods and across plants.

Energy per unit produced

The Energy Intensity module ties consumption to production. Without that link, rising consumption may mean inefficiency or simply more output, and there is no way to tell which.

The platform records units produced by product and period, and computes the corresponding unit indicators. That is the basis of an EnPI in an energy management system.

The products catalogue is what makes the calculation possible: each product is registered with its name, description, unit of measure and the substation its consumption is associated with, so recorded output is matched against energy from the right point.

Normalising by production makes two plants of different size comparable, and stops a high-demand month from looking like an inefficient one.

What it computes

  • Units produced by product and period
  • kWh per unit produced
  • Cost per unit produced
  • CO2 per unit produced
  • A record per load center and date

How it is fed

Output is recorded by plant, product and period; consumption comes from metering, and the unit indicators are computed for you.

EVA-Smart AI energy intensity records with kWh, cost and CO2 per unit produced
Output recorded by plant, product and period, with the three unit indicators already computed: cost, kWh and CO₂ per unit. Comparing 13.8 against 18.7 kWh per unit says something total consumption never could.

What each record holds

  • Load center: the plant or building.
  • Product: the good produced in the period.
  • Units produced: the period's volume.
  • Unit indicators: cost, kWh and CO2 per unit.

What it is for

  • Back an ISO 50001 EnPI with measurement rather than estimation.
  • Compare the performance of two plants at different scales.
  • Show that an improvement cut unit consumption even as the total rose.
  • Cost the energy component of each product.
