Transformer power analysis

How loaded your transformer is against its rated capacity, how much headroom is left, and whether reactive compensation is doing its job.

The most expensive asset in the installation

The Transformer Power Analysis module takes the transformer's rated capacity and sets it against apparent power measured across the period. That yields the two figures governing any growth decision: loading percentage and available headroom in kVA.

Over the same window it analyses reactive behaviour: how much reactive power is being handled, whether there are overcompensation episodes, and the range the power factor moved through.

Overcompensation shows as negative reactive power: a bank delivering too much is penalised too, and without this view it is practically invisible.

What it computes

  • Transformer rated capacity in kVA
  • The period's peak apparent power
  • Loading percentage and available headroom in kVA
  • Average active power for the period
  • Peak bank reactive power and overcompensation episodes
  • Minimum and maximum power factor range
  • Apparent, active and reactive power curves
  • Inductive versus capacitive behaviour

How it is queried

Choose the point, the period and the resolution; the analysis runs over every reading in that window.

EVA-Smart AI transformer power analysis showing loading, headroom and apparent power
Transformer capacity, period loading with available headroom, and the apparent power curve against the rated limit.

Controls

  • Load center and measurement point: the transformer to analyse.
  • Period: the historical window evaluated.
  • Resolution: the aggregation interval for readings.
  • Rated limit: taken from the asset's registered capacity.

Decisions it supports

  • Know whether there is headroom for a new line without replacing the transformer.
  • Detect an asset that is underused and could be resized.
  • Find overcompensation that is being penalised unnoticed.
  • Back an expansion project with measured rather than estimated loading.
